The John Coltrane House International Jazz Day Fete

At the Ethical Society Building

April 30, 2014

Officially registered with the United Nations, the sponsor of International Jazz Day, and

listed on the UN International Jazz Day Website

The John Coltrane House enthusiastically celebrates International Jazz Day! We are

hosting a concert/cocktail hour from 6:30 to 9:00PM April 30. Participating in this

international festival provides our organization an exceptional opportunity to spotlight

John Coltrane’s Philadelphia National Historic Landmark home. Additionally, our event

brings international attention to Philadelphia as a dedicated jazz location.

The concert will include traditional and contemporary live jazz performance along with

other urban music styles. Soul, blues, rap, R&B and jazz, all also known as urban music,

are all aspects of music that originated from the same cultural source. Our intent is to

bring together an intergenerational audience, reflecting a variety of musical tastes, to

experience early and current urban music, live, sincerely and expertly performed.

Pianist, Alfie Pollitt Pollitt, dean of Philadelphia live jazz, is performing with his trio

and also acting as music manager for this event. Also on the line up are exciting local

vocalists Bethlehem and Selena. Both of these young women have outstanding voices

and delivery and “crossover” appeal to the xer and millennial generation, who tend

toward what is termed “contemporary urban.” Additionally performing is nationally

emerging young saxophonist “Ernest.” MC is “Sonny the Host.” We will be adding one

or two more performers to complete the line up.

Included in the ticket price are light refreshments and complimentary cocktail.

Needed are 200 live music enthusiasts!

Join the John Coltrane House for this inaugural Jazz Day event. Proceeds to benefit the

John Coltrane House restoration effort.
