So happy to announce a very special April concert . This collaboration has been a long time coming. It started back in 2014, sharing the stage every night with Mary while on tour in Japan. After playing to packed houses, that "telepathic" creative energy was moving so fast I knew we had to document it. The result was our debut recording, "Strings & Things."

Now, we’re finally bringing that studio energy to a live audience for the project's concert debut thanks to a special invitation from James Keepsnews Elysium Furnace Works.

It’s a meeting of two different generations and distinct musical languages. You’ll hear Jamaaladeen Tacuma’s one of a kind approach to the electric bass—that deep, percussive thumb-lead technique and melodic freedom—locked in with Mary Halvorson’s angular, pointillistic guitar phrasing and signature liquid pitch-shifts.

This is more than just a set of music; it’s a sincere, improvisational journey and a historical step forward for both us . We’re looking forward to exploring these new sound landscapes in person. Harmolodic bass legend Tacuma (Ornette Coleman) leads this duo featuring another MacArthur "genius" grantee for 2026, guitarist Halvorson. Elysium Furnace Works' second 2026 concert features another dynamic duo when we present this highly-regarded project: the harmolodic bass legend Tacuma (Ornette Coleman, James "Blood" Ulmer, Marc Ribot) leading a duo with yet another MacArthur "genius" grantee for EFW this season, guitarist Halvorson.
